FORT BRAGG, CA., 8/29/25 – The city of Fort Bragg donated $58,000 to the Fort Bragg Food Bank earlier this week, the city said.

The donation, approved by the Fort Bragg City Council in July, is from the city’s general fund budget surplus.

The funds will be used to serve Fort Bragg residents.

According to its website, the food bank serves approximately 1,600 individuals monthly. Its services include a weekly onsite food distribution, a farm stand, home delivery, and special food box programs for children and older adults.

The funding comes at a time when the Mendo Food Network, the organization that operates the Food Bank, is experiencing federal spending cuts issued by President Donald Trump’s administration.

According to Amanda Friscia, executive director of the network and food bank, the organization has already lost over $20,000 in administrative funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and more cuts are expected.

“Any support is welcome,” she said at a City Council meeting in April. “Any food in your cupboard, we make it easy to take it off your hands.”

That plea for help was heard by the city of Fort Bragg.

“I’m glad the city was able to support the Food Bank right now, as the funding landscape is so uncertain these days,” said Fort Bragg Mayor Jason Godeke. “The Fort Bragg Food Bank provides a vital service to so many of our town’s families and individuals. I’m grateful for all of the work Food Bank staff and volunteers dedicate to serving our community.”

  1. It’s almost as if a community can help each other without assistance from the government.
    Crazy isn’t it?

    1. This community organization faces a $20,000 federal cut right now, with who knows how much in the future. However, thus community does not have a federal cut in the taxes they pay. Crazy, isn’t it?

  2. Assistance from m the government is our taxes coming back to us. $ should be coming to the food bank instead of a $200 million WhiteHouse ballroom.
