MENDOCINO CO., 8/14/25 — Two earthquakes struck different parts of Northern California early Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The first, a 4.0-magnitude quake, hit at 5:48 a.m. about 5 miles west-southwest of Cobb in Lake County. It was located 13.5 miles north-northeast of Healdsburg and 17.6 miles north of Windsor in Sonoma County. It struck about 1.9 miles below ground.

Just seconds later, a separate 3.9-magnitude quake occurred near Laytonville in Mendocino County, about 2.2 miles southwest of the town and nearly 39 miles north-northwest of Ukiah. That quake struck at about 8.7 miles below the surface.
