FORT BRAGG, CA., 5/11/25 – Poets and poetry enthusiasts are invited to Fort Bragg on Sunday for the Mendocino Spring Poetry Celebration.

This marks the 50th year of the event at which poets from across the county read their works in four-minute increments while attendees enjoy bites from a potluck and a convivial creative vibe. It’s the Mendocino Coast version of a New York City poetry slam.

This year’s celebration honors four poets for their contributions to the local poetry community: Gordon Black, Bill Bradd, Sharon Doubiago and Dan Roberts.

Poets of all experience levels are invited to read, with signups taking place at the event. Readings will be recorded for possible play on Dan Roberts’ Rhythm Running River show on KZYX on Sundays.

Guests are asked to bring snacks, finger foods, small bites and drinks to share at the event’s potluck.

The 50th annual Mendocino Spring Poetry Celebration takes place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 at the JD Center at 208 Dana St., Fort Bragg. Attendance is free. For more information visit mendocinopoetlaureate.mymcn.org or call Kirk Lumpkin at (707) 621-3215.
