FAQ: Membership and Newsletters

Introduction

We want it to be easy for members and readers of The Mendocino Voice to find or change your preferences. As of July 2020, we are using a service called Pico that helps you do all of that on our website — no more clicking out to third-party services like Patreon and MailChimp. More information on this change here.

Below are some frequently asked questions about how to manage your account. If you have any questions or want help, please call email membership@mendovoice.com.

How do I become a member?

Anyone who contributes to The Mendocino Voice is a member, and our membership page offers a variety of ways to do so. The following instructions are for people who want to contribute using Pico, which is part of our website.

  • On the membership page, click the membership option you prefer and wait for a pop-up to appear.
  • If you are not an existing user, enter your email address. Click the blue arrow to continue.
    • Head to your inbox and open the email with the subject line, “Your magic link.”
    • Click that link, which will take you back to mendovoice.com Follow the directions in the sections below.
  • If you are an existing user or have completed the steps above, enter your card details and click the blue arrow to continue.
    • Confirm your payment amount and click “Submit Payment.”
    • Head to your inbox to check that you received a receipt.
  • That’s it — thank you for being a part of The Mendocino Voice!
  • You can change your membership by logging in and clicking “Manage Membership.”

Can I contribute to The Mendocino Voice by check?

Yes! Head to our membership page for instructions.


How do I get The Mendocino Voice newsletters?

  • Navigate to mendovoice.com and find “Sign up for our headlines newsletter!” on the sidebar.
  • Enter your email and click “sign up.”
  • A pop-up window will appear, click the blue “Continue as” button.
    • If you have a password, enter it now.
  • Go to your inbox and open the email with the subject line “Your magic link.”
  • Click the blue button that says “Continue to The Mendocino Voice.”
  • That’s it — look for a newsletter in your inbox in the next few days!
  • You can change your newsletter preferences by logging in and clicking “Manage Newsletters.”

How do I log in to my Mendocino Voice account?

When you are logged in to your account, you can manage your membership, change your newsletter preferences or update your personal information. Logging in also means you don’t see as many pop-ups.

  • Go to mendovoice.com and click on the circle with our logo in the lower right corner.
  • Enter your email address. You can also use Google and Facebook to continue, just make sure the email addresses associated with those accounts match the address you used to sign up for membership or newsletters.
  • Head to your inbox and open the email with the subject line, “Your magic link.”
  • Click that link, which will take you back to mendovoice.com — now you’re logged in!
  • You will see a menu on the lower right of the page with your account information. From that menu, you can create a password or manage your information.

I am a member or newsletter subscriber — why do I keep getting messages on mendovoice.com asking me to sign up?

You might have logged out of your account, cleared your browser history or arrived at our website using certain apps. To make the pop-up message disappear, see our directions for how to log in again.


Do I need a password?

Pico uses a password-less, email-based login system. The rationale for that is many of us misplace or forget passwords. The process outlined in the section above — How do I log in to my Mendocino Voice account? — can be used every time you need to access your account. However, you can set up a password if you prefer.

  • Log in to your account. In the account menu in the lower right corner, click “Edit Profile”
  • Click the pencil next to “Password” to create or edit a password.
  • Click the blue check mark when complete.
  • That’s it — you’ve created a password for your Mendocino Voice account!

How do I unsubscribe from a newsletter?

  • Once you are logged in, click the circle in the lower right corner of mendovoice.com to access your account options.
  • Click “Manage Newsletters,” then unselect the newsletter you wish to stop receiving. Note that if you unselect “Email communications from The Mendocino Voice” we will not be able to contact you through our newsletter subscriber, which might exclude you from important updates about your account.

How do I delete my account?

  • Once you are logged in, click the circle in the lower right corner of mendovoice.com to access your account options.
  • Click “Edit Profile,” then “Delete Account.”
  • If you need support in deleting your account before the end of your billing cycle, contact membership coordinator Olivia Henry at ‪(707) 216-1829‬ or email her at ohenry@mendovoice.com.
