The following is a note from the Mendocino Cannabis Alliance (MCA). The MCA describes itself as such: The Mendocino Cannabis Alliance serves and promotes Mendocino County’s world-renowned cannabis cultivators and businesses through sustainable economic development, education and public policy initiatives.
MCA is aware that anecdotal reports are beginning to emerge regarding potentially inappropriate activity by law enforcement during Operation Clean Sweep.
We would like to remind everyone that Sheriff Allman has requested that folks submit photo/video documentation of any potential law enforcement violations to MCA at firstname.lastname@example.org, and that he has instructed all personnel conducting missions to provide their names and business cards when asked in order to aid in transparency and accountability.
We understand that it is difficult to come forward after having been targeted by military-style enforcement activity. Please be assured that if you provide us with evidence and/or reports of specific law enforcement actions taken during Operation Clean Sweep, we will NOT share anything with law enforcement, or anybody, without your explicit approval.
However, in order for us to attempt to hold law enforcement accountable and prevent inappropriate law enforcement actions from happening to others in the future, we need to see concrete evidence of these activities. Whenever possible, document with video any encounters with law enforcement and record the officer’s name and unit.
As we have stated previously, we call on State and local agencies to recognize that enforcement for illicit operations on private land is more efficiently and humanely implemented through code enforcement and that the widespread use of helicopters and other military-style enforcement tactics should be reserved for only the most egregious situations.
